Takeoff

Airports. Airplanes. Flying. That moment before takeoff, when all you can do is wait and wonder and hope and anticipate the adventure that awaits.

I had to fly out of Birmingham, Alabama this weekend, which is about two and a half hours away from Columbus, so we decided to make a day of it and stop for lunch nearby. A friend recommended Dixie Fish Co, and I still can’t stop thinking about it. In Boston and Miami, it’s easy to take good food for granted; in The South, it’s much harder to come by anything that isn’t a giant chain. So Dixie Fish was extra special. The food, the decor, the vibe, the open air; I can’t say enough good things. I only wish it were closer.

West Point

IMG_4660West Point, Mississippi, feels like Disney World or Clark’s Trading Post, or some kind of nostalgic amusement park – except that it’s very real life and very abandoned, quiet. A shadow of what once was. I wonder what it was like years ago, when Main Street was alive.

Sketches

Still sketching, whenever I have time. Each drawing begins with a place. Then, I fill in the rest.

Tombigbee River

We took two pontoon boats on on the river this weekend. It was a real life country song; boats, beer, grilling, river banks, floating, friends. This really feels like The South; this is experiencing the real Mississippi.

Riverwalk

Taking business calls along four miles of the Columbus Riverwalk today. Any excuse to be outside for the sunset.
